SILVER SPRING, Md., Dec. 3 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The National Marine Sanctuary Foundation (NMSF) is offering a unique eco-friendly gift giving opportunity in partnership with OceansForMe.com, the world's first and only ocean registry that allows users to actually purchase their own virtual ocean parcel, identifiable by GPS coordinates, and explore the ocean on an interactive map. For every parcel registered within a national marine sanctuary, OceansForMe.com will donate a portion of the gross receipts to the NMSF to support the Foundation's ongoing marine conservation efforts focused on education and research programs.
"Our National Marine Sanctuary System was created to preserve and protect America's ocean and Great Lakes treasures. I can think of no better gift for those who love the ocean to learn more about these special places and support our marine conservation efforts at the same time. I thank The Ocean Registry and OceansForMe.com for their contribution to these efforts," said Lori Arguelles, President & CEO of the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation.
All registries are published in The Official Ocean Registry, which is copyrighted and updated quarterly with the U.S. Library of Congress. Once a parcel of water is registered, it is exclusive to the registrant and is no longer available to be claimed by someone else. The registrant owns exclusive registration rights to that real parcel of ocean and a personal claim to that online space at OceansForMe.com.
The two ocean parcel packages make great gifts this holiday season and are offered at $25 for the standard package and $40 for the deluxe package. The deluxe certificate package is professionally printed using eco-friendly printing methods and materials. Registrants will receive a downloadable Certificate of Registration, a world map marking the geographic location of the parcel, and a letter of congratulations with a custom gift message.
"We are committed to helping the oceans of the world," said Lina Virzintas, Founder and President of The Ocean Registry. "By connecting more people with the world's waters, we are helping to protect the ocean, especially our nation's marine sanctuaries, one parcel at a time."
The National Marine Sanctuary Foundation is the private, non-profit partner to the federal National Marine Sanctuary System, managed within NOAA's National Ocean Service. The 14 sites within the system protect special places in the oceans and Great Lakes, from the Florida Keys to the Hawaiian Islands, and from Lake Huron to the Gulf of Mexico. The Foundation supports sanctuary education and research programs and seeks to educate the public about how they can help protect and preserve them for future generations.
